Ministry of Hope was established in 1999 by Malawians as a local, community-based response for meeting the physical and spiritual needs of the growing number of children orphaned by the AIDS epidemic. Liberty Corner Presbyterian Church became interested in partnering with Ministry of Hope because of its creative African-helping-African effort at solving the orphan crisis. In addition, the crisis nursery that was begun by Nancy Dimmock, one of the mission co-workers supported by LCPC, has become a part of this ministry.
Ministry of Hope is primarily committed to making a difference in the lives of orphans. However, it also works with widows, the disabled, and the destitute by ministering to their physical needs and, in the process, helping them find the true and everlasting HOPE that is only found in Jesus Christ.
Current projects include Evangelism and Discipleship, Feeding Centers, Crisis Nursery, Widows Program, and Educational Support. In addition, volunteer groups are invited to participate in the program on short-term mission trips.
A Malawian board of directors provides oversight and a U.S. board of directors helps with financial support. LCPC member Pam Bowman is a member of the U.S. board. The ministry is under the Mkuza Presbyterian Church of the Nkhoma Synod in Malawi and also has partnerships with several other church denominations.
